Do you want to ride your bike all winter? Are you concerned about crashing on the ice and slick car-packed snow? Then you should probably have studded tires, which greatly reduce the risk of your bike slipping on ice and packed snow. Winter cycling is, in many ways, a different activity than cycling during the rest of the year. If you're a hardy soul who enjoys winter, then you'll probably enjoy winter cycling...with the right equipment. I've been riding through the winter on studded tires since 2004, and I wouldn't miss it!

We have tried all the popular studded tires, and these are our favorite. They have lots of studs and a reflective sidewall, yet they seem to be lighter weight and ride more efficiently than competing brands. Carbide studs for improved stud wear. Most people get 2-5 seasons out of a set before stud wear is a concern. Some people try to get by with just one studded tire on the front. As Mark says, you can point, but you can't shoot. Winter cycling conditions are highly variable, and equipment needs vary rider to rider, place to place, and day to day. Anyway, for all-purpose winter riding, we recommend studded tires front and rear.

Get these BEFORE you need them. In our experience, by the time the first snow falls, they're gone until next October.
